OPI - HTF - mystery polish....

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
This is the third polish that I scored from Goodwill for only 99 cents. It's label is missing so I have no idea which one it could possibly be.... But the simple lettering on the back of the bottle matches the bottle of Plymouth Lox. It's not like the newer OPI bottles that have a lot of lettering and symbols.

The fill line hits at the horizontal line just below the OPI letters.
It's a warm orange with hints of coral. Creme finish. Pictured is 3 thin coats. The lid of this one was quite stuck and required some effort to get into. Then I had to add a couple of drops of thinner because it was slightly gloopy. Once I thinned it a bit, it applied perfectly.
So do you have any idea what it could be? I don't have much knowledge when it comes to old OPIs. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Then I decided to use it in some nail art inspired by this look I found through Pinterest.

OPI - HTF - Back in the Saddle

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
This is another great black label find at my local Goodwill. I got it for only 99 cents.
The fill line on this bottle was also just barely used.
It hits right at the rim of the bottle well above the OPI lettering.

It's a pumpkin-y orange color with heavy gold shimmer.
2 coats are pictured. Again, despite smelling of toxic old fumes, the formula was still really good and went on smooth.

The label on the bottom is pretty disgusting and damaged.
I tried to clean it up a bit but it's still difficult to read.
In the sunlight I managed to make out that it's 4 words long and the last word is "Saddle" so my online digging leads me to believe it's "Back in the Saddle" from the "Wild Wild West" collection from 1999. The color seems to match.

OPI - HTF - Plymouth Lox

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
I hit pay dirt at my local Goodwill.  I normally just randomly pass through but never find anything. Last week I found 3 OPI's under the glass counter top by the registers for 99 cents each. It turns out that they're black labels! Which is a sign of an older OPI.

My research found that OPI Plymouth Lox if from the New England Collection in 1998.
The bottle has been barely used. The fill line hits right at the upper rim of the glass above the OPI lettering.

Pictured is 2 coats, despite it smelling of toxic fumes like old nail polish does.... It applied perfectly easy. Didn't even require any thinner. It's a beautiful tomato red with shimmer.

Stay tuned to see the other scores!

Art Exhibit - 2013

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
I entered an art show again this year, this is the one from last year.
This year I did 2 separate and small 6"x6" shadowboxes.
I did put a price on each of $100. So we shall see if someone ends up buying them.... Last years was bought for $500! So fingers crossed!
The show is tonight, I'll be sure to edit this post with an update once it's all over.

Stripes & Drips

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
These nails were inspired by Nancy Mc and her Mickey nail wheel.
I don't think I've ever done drippy nails before, but these were a lot of fun.
I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White as a base and started taping off the stripes to create them. After 2 nails I got sick of that slow process, so I just freehanded them with Sinful Colors Time Out which is a black striper brush polish.
I then applied white for the drippy sections because I wanted the neon to be vibrant. The neon dark pink is Color Club Raspberry Rush. Then black striper polish to outline the drips and a white acrylic paint and a tiny brush for the shine marks.

Geometric Squares

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
I've been feeling a little down and like a nail blogger failure because I haven't had much of my own nail art inspiration. I feel like I'm in a creative block. :( So the only nail art I've been doing is inspired by other bloggers.

Today it was this look from Whitney at Dressed Up Nails.
I used China Glaze Lemon Fizz, For Audrey, & Zoya Dea.
All of the details were done with a skinny nail art brush.

Herbie The Love Bug Inspired

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Anybody else love these movies as a kid? I loved watching the ones from the 60s, I wasn't as big a fan of the Lindsay Lohan versions.
These nails were inspired by his racing stripes and number.

Tutorial:
I used 3 coats of Lime Crime Milky Ways and then I topped it with a coat of Seche Vite to speed things along. I waited about 10 minutes before applying the striping tape. I started along the middle of my nail and applied one piece. Then a second piece touching along the side of the first piece. Place the next piece with enough spacing to accommodate another imaginary piece of tape between them. And repeat again with skipping another imaginary space.
Then I used a small nail art brush to apply Sally Hansen Insta Dri Rapid Red & Sinful Colors Rainstorm.
Then I removed all of the strips of tape EXCEPT for the very first strip. That one I trimmed with some cuticle nippers to the edges of my nail. Top with Seche Vite topcoat.
 Voila!

Lotsa Hearts

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
These ended up looking like generic stickers, but I swear I painstakingly applied each and every heart. I used a dotting tool and a tiny nail art brush. They were inspired by Rebecca's nails here.

The polishes I used:
Base of Sinful Colors Snow Me White
China Glaze Laced Up & Electric Beat
Sally Hansen Insta Dri Heat Flash & Lightening
Orly Fresh

Color Club Fiesta - Wild Cactus & Flamingo

Posted on 07:33 by Unknown
These are 2 new colors from Color Club's Fiesta Collection. Interestingly enough these polishes are listed for 2 different prices on their website..... Hmm...

Wild Cactus
$6.00
Sorry that some of my pictures are fuzzy. My camera freaked out and thought this polish was teal. My iphone's camera actually picked up the green accurately.
Pictured is 2 coats and it applied absolutely perfectly.
The color is the true emerald tone that is one of the "it" colors of the season.
I LOVE IT! Home run in my opinion.

 Flamingo
$8.00
3 thin coats. Applied kind of thick and remained "dentable" even after it should have been fully dried.
Indoors the polish looks mostly just intense bright pink.

Outdoors, the polish definitely takes on a neon tone.

Meh, I have many different neon-ish pink polishes that are less tricky to apply, so I'm not totally in love with Flamingo.

Ruby Wing - Poppy & Sunflower

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
These polishes from Ruby Wing are both SCENTED and COLOR CHANGING. It was quite interesting to find those 2 in one polish.

Poppy
(Can be found here for $10)
2 coats indoors. It's a vibrant medium pink.
The little hanging tag that shows the color change and says it's scented. The scent is very strong. I'm not good at describing smells... but the best I can come up with is "grandma put on too much floral perfume again."

Outdoors the polish changes to a deep wine/grape shade.

Sunflower
(Can be found here for $10)
Fine gold glitter in a clear base indoors. The pinky is 3 thin coats, which results in complete coverage/opacity. The other nails are all just 1 coat of Sunflower layered over white polish, black polish, and Ruby Wing Poppy.

The tag shows it changing from a pale gold to a brighter yellow gold?
Scent.... I guess it smells like Sunflowers, I honestly don't really know what that smells like. The scent here is quite strong again, and to me it smells almost like a clean cotton/fresh linen manufactured scent.

In sunlight.
In my opinion, I didn't see much of a change. The pinky looks just slightly more bronze colored in sunlight.
The index finger (Sunflower layered over white) shows that the clear base turns yellow.
And of course the ring nail is over Poppy, the other color changing polish, so it looks really different.

The inside of the tag just has basic directions and a cute quote.

The formula on both of these polishes is really great, dry time is fast, and the brush is standard quality.
