Pink Glitter "Glequins"

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Another product from the Born Pretty Store is up today. This is a similar loose glitter available in the same type of container. Slightly smaller and diamond shaped. I wanted to attempt a complete pattern across the entire nail. I started at the cuticle end of my nail and my lines got more crooked as I grew increasingly impatient. But just imagine how great it would have looked if I'd gone slower?! :)

I started out with 2 coats of China Glaze Secondhand Silk. It goes perfectly with the warm gold of these glitter pieces. Once that had a moment to dry I applied top coat in small sections and placed each glitter piece individually. Once the entire nail was covered, another coat of topcoat. I took nail clippers to the pieces that hung off the edge.

These glitter pieces can be found here for $2.38. The description reads "purple," but both here and there they look PINK.

Don't forget my coupon code if you place an order!

LSU use of "Glequins"

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
These large pieces of loose glitter have been dubbed "Glequins" by the Nailasaurus. These can be found at Born Pretty Store and they are not big enough to be called a sequin, but are larger than most glitters.
Hence, "glequin".
I bow to her patience when it comes to application! I got a little rushed, so mine don't line up as perfectly as hers. I received these loose glitter pieces in gold for review. They can be purchased here for $2.38.

Purple and gold! LSU colors!
I painted 2 coats of theBalm's Hot Ticket polish in Lilac Any Sense. Waited for it to dry a bit and then applied small amount of topcoat at a time along the borders of my nails. Then I picked up the glitter pieces and placed them all individually. The screw top plastic container that the glitter pieces come in makes it easy to stay organized. Sometimes I mistakenly picked up 2 pieces of glitter,  but I just placed them anyway. Lol. Once all of the glitter was placed, I put on one more layer of top coat. These "glequins" lie flat making it much less tempting to pick at them.

Don't forget if you'd like to order from Born Pretty, you can use my coupon code for 10% off!

Shimmer Polish - Stephanie & Trisha

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Here are 2 more Shimmer Polishes from Cindy. Check out her Etsy shop, her website, or her facebook for more information on purchasing. Or you can always email her directly with your paypal address and the colors you would like to purchase:
shimmer484(at)gmail(dot)com

Stephanie is really gorgeous! I'm always a sucker for blues and this is no exception. A little splash of some other colors are thrown in to make it really stand out. This is 2 coats of easy application.

Trisha is really unique. Heavy orange concentration with some blue, gold, and purple in the mix. This polish just screams "party" to me for some reason. 3 thin coats.

Maurice's Magnetic Polishes

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
I love the store Maurice's. It just adorable. Everything is teal, cute, and women's fashion. Mostly they just sell clothes, shoes, & accessories. I've seen that they had nail polish for sale before, but it wasn't anything to write home about. This time they had magnetic polishes. 2 were actually interesting so they made it home with me. $6 per bottle. The bottles do not have any names listed, but they are for sale on the website with names.

"Gray Star" according to the website, actually looks a lot like OPI Not Like the Movies. It has a green/gray/purple duochrome!
What's really cool is that once the magnet is applied, the purple pulls away from the silver.

This is the only picture where I managed to capture the hint of green. You can see it along the edges, that's not just a reflection. ;)

Soooo sparkly.

"Green Star" according to the website.... It's more of a teal in my opinion.

The larger particles are so sparkly!

Each of the polishes comes with a star shaped magnet. The magnet portion pulls off the inner cap with the attached polish brush.
What do you think?

GOSH - Holographic

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
I've swatched this before. Last year when I first got it, here. My nails were short and rounded then, so here they are on another nail shape. :) It's summer, therefore always a good time to pull out the holographics!
This is 2 coats. Some complain about patchy application... I didn't have too many troubles. I used Orly Bonder as the base coat and made sure that there is a fair amount of polish on the brush. I noticed more bald spots when my brush was drier.

Outdoors in the setting sun..... The polish takes on a much softer tone.

I love it soooooo much! :)

Stud Nail Art

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
I received these 4mm silver studs from Born Pretty to review. I immediately knew I wanted to recreate Rebecca's nail art that she did in gold.
The blue is Sally Hansen Insta Dri Blue Away. The ring finger is OPI Crown Me Already topped with Milani Jewel FX Silver.

You can get these studs here for $5.84. They are SO easy to work with. They come in a resealable plastic bag. I stuck them down on my still-wet topcoat and they are good to go!

I tried to catch this angle of my thumb so you can see that they lie quite flat. The corners don't lift and get snagged. :) I only had a little trouble on my pinky because that nail is the narrowest. Even that nail isn't too bad that it bothers me. Once the studs were placed I put one more layer of topcoat on top.

Then I tried another look with the studs lined up along the nail. This proved tricky because my nails weren't exact matches. For the studs that were hanging off, I clipped them with nail clippers. The aluminum they are made with is very soft and easy to cut. Cutting it like that, pulled it off of my nail, so I put it back down with a drop of nail glue. I figured it would likely catch and snag, needing some extra protection.

The polish here is Essie Tour De Finance.

The studs lasted one entire day before I lost the one closest to the free edge of my pointer finger. A casualty was had for the sake of turning my iPhone to silent mode.... Then I proceeded to pick them all off, just because that's what I tend to do.

Don't forget if you want to place an order on Born Pretty you can use my coupon code for 10% off!

theBalm Hot Ticket - Lilac Any Sense

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
Here is Lilac Any Sense from the Balm's line of "Hot Ticket" nail polish.
I picked it up on Hautelook last month for $5.

This is 2 coats. The formula on these polishes is really good. They go on so smoothly and dry quickly.

Just a great medium, creme purple shade.

Not much else to say. :)

OPI Black Spotted Over Neons

Posted on 04:00 by Unknown
By now maybe you've heard there is some clamoring over a new OPI polish. It's called "Black Spotted" and has only been released in French Sephoras. No plans that it will come to the US or anywhere else in Europe. :( If you have a random connection to a relative or friend in France, have them track this down for you! Or you can choke down a steep price on eBay. It's a must have.

It's a twisted type of special effect top coat, almost like Crackle, but not quite. It's like oil and water or something..... Amazing. :) The effect is immediate and the polish is fairly thin. It dries quickly and has a shiny finish. The instruction tag says to apply in a THIN coat. I had to play with it before I got it just right. I got the best results when I had just a little polish on the brush, then I applied it to the middle of my nail and swept over the nail a few times. Where normally I apply my polish with just 3 strokes, this time I would have just a little polish and do at least 5 strokes. The little openings start forming immediately, but with a few extra strokes you can get an even and thin layer on before it dries.

And can I just add that it's a BEAST to get off your cuticles. So be cautious to not be too messy. My angled clean up brush had to scrub a little more than normal.

I started with a base of white polish. Sinful Colors Snow Me White

Random blobs of neon polishes. I just used the brush that comes in the polish.
ChG Pink Voltage, Under the Boardwalk, & Ride the Waves.
Sally Hansen Insta Dri Lightening and Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed.
ELF Neon Green.

Then 1 thin layer of Spotted using the method I mentioned above.

When it first arrived in the mail I was wearing GOSH Holographic. So I immediately put it on. I applied it too thick though and didn't get many bubbly formations. :( But you can see it's still pretty awesome!!!
So how do you plan on getting it!? Or do you not like the look at all?
